“International humanitarian law: current challenges and solutions”

Description:

The discussion panel is dedicated to the consideration of topical issues of contemporary international humanitarian law (IHL), taking into account the ongoing full-scale Russian Federation’s military aggression against Ukraine.

The following issues will be discussed: the legal regime for the protection of persons who who are not or are no longer participating in the hostilities; the legal regime of occupation; the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare; the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross; the qualification of armed conflicts and their distinction from related situations; the application of IHL sources; responsibility for violations of IHL; and the activity of international criminal courts and tribunals.

The speakers are Ukrainian and foreign scholars, representatives of Ukrainian government agencies and human rights organizations.

 

Language: English, Ukrainian (with simultaneous translation).
