Panel discussion: “ACCESS TO JUSTICE IN THE CONTEXT OF ARMED AGGRESSION AND GLOBAL CHALLENGES OF THE 21ST CENTURY”

Coordinator: Oksana Kaplina – Doctor of Law, Professor, Head of the Department of Criminal Procedure at Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.

 

The panel discussion is aimed at creating a platform for fruitful professional discussion by representatives of legal science and practice of a wide range of topical issues of ensuring access to justice in the context of armed aggression against Ukraine and global challenges facing criminal justice. In particular, these are such topics as resolving the issue of military jurisdiction during martial law and the post-conflict period, access to justice in the focus of European integration processes and the practice of the European Court of Human Rights, the problems of prosecuting war crimes in absentia (in the absence of a suspect), creating a proper procedure for reviewing court decisions, the potential of artificial intelligence in criminal proceedings, and the problems of international cooperation in criminal proceedings. The panel discussion will be aimed at finding optimal approaches to understanding current problems in law enforcement and generating conceptual ways to solve them.
