Sofiya Shutiak
She has been working in the field of environmental protection in Ukraine since 1999. Since 2005, she has been a lawyer in public interest environmental disputes and has been looking for ways to achieve the rule of environmental law.
In 2013, she began researching the specifics of public administration and decentralisation of good governance at the community level to ensure that sustainable development goals are properly met.
Since 2021, as a PhD student at the Department of Law and Public Administration, she has been working on improving the efficiency of local asset management, interacting with the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, territorial communities and regional military administrations (RMAs) on the effective development of Comprehensive Recovery Programmes (CRPs). Also, since 2021, at the level of the Ukrainian National Bar Association, he has been responsible for the development and proper formation of the practice of applying environmental regulations at the managerial level and, if necessary, at the level of law enforcement and judicial authorities, as well as promoting the knowledge of lawyers on environmental law. He systematically prepares explanations, analytical references, and sample documents on environmental and legal issues. He is involved in work with the specialised committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, ministries and central executive bodies. He is a member of the International Expert Group on Combating Crimes against the Environment at the Prosecutor General’s Office.
