Mag. Konstanze Thau

Registered mediator according to ZivMedG, Lecturer at the SFU Vienna. From 1994 to August 2024, she worked as a judge in residential property and tenancy law and in general civil law. Most recently as chair of an appeal panel at the Vienna Regional Court for Civil Matters in family law. In 2015, she founded the ‘conciliation judge’ pilot project together with seven other fellow judges. As part of this project, judges who also practise mediation work on an honorary basis and without being relieved of their regular judicial duties to find an alternative dispute resolution in court. This means that the parties to court proceedings already pending before the court have the option of working with the ‘conciliation judge’ (instead of the trial judge) to reach an amicable settlement during the court proceedings. This small group of conciliation judges has now trained around 50 other conciliation judges across Austria. Ms. Thau have also been working as a court-certified mediator in private practice since 2015.
