Criminal law measures to combat violations of sanctions restrictions: Ukrainian and international dimensions
Panel discussion
“Criminal law measures to combat violations of sanctions restrictions: Ukrainian and international dimensions”
The system of international sanctions imposed in response to the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine has highlighted the need to develop comprehensive legal mechanisms to counteract their violation and circumvention. Criminal law regulation plays an important role in this regard, ensuring an adequate level of punishment (justice) and prevention.
The panel discussion aims to analyze the current state of criminalization of sanctions violations in the European Union and Ukraine, the problems of its practical implementation, and possible directions for improving legal regulation. Participants will also consider judicial practice developed under martial law and compare Ukrainian experience with international approaches, in particular within the framework of European Union law.
Particular attention will be paid to common schemes for circumventing sanctions in foreign and domestic practice, as well as to the analysis of the provisions of EU Directive No. 1226 and its significance for the formation of an effective national criminal law counteraction system.
The discussion will involve representatives of the scientific community, state bodies, and experts, whose reports will allow for an integrated consideration of both theoretical and practical aspects of the application of sanctions restrictions in the criminal law sphere.
The event is organized by the Department of Criminal Law of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University in cooperation with the Institute of Legislative Ideas think tank.
