Presentation of the course “Business and Human Rights” for law students (27.09.2018)

I Kharkiv International Law Forum was the launch of several new initiatives at once. Among them – the first in Ukraine training course “Business and Human Rights” for law students developed with the participation of international experts.
The long-term friends of our University participated in the presentation of the course, which took place on September 27: representatives of the partner university Lyra Jakulevičienė, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Head of the Human Rights Laboratory of the University of Mykolas Romeris, co-founder of Lithuania’s Responsible Business Network and Dovilė Gailiūtė – Janušonė, an assistant professor of the Institute of International Law and EU Law of Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania),an expert from Lithuania FRANET research network.

In their presentation lectures, which became introductory to the course, guests from Lithuania immediately immersed those present on the agenda of business and human rights issues. Why not only does the state bear responsibility for respecting, observing and ensuring human rights? What are the prospects for the adoption of a legally binding, and not a binding international treaty on business and human rights? Why is it important for the states seeking to be called democratic to implement positive practices in the field of business and human rights? What is the practice of the European Court of Human Rights in matters that are directly related to business and human rights? How does the development of digital technologies affect the concept of business commitment in the field of human rights?
