The war has necessitated the strengthening of criminal law protections for the foundations of Ukraine’s national security, peace and security of humanity, the proper conduct of military service, public order, and property. This has led to the criminalization of a number of acts and the imposition of stricter criminal liability. In addition, the issue arose of creating a series of special provisions that provide for exemptions from criminal liability for harm caused while defending the homeland, as well as the possibility of exemption from punishment for acts committed in defense of Ukraine.

The presentations are expected to examine relevant theoretical and practical criminal law responses to the challenges posed by the Russian-Ukrainian war, as well as those facing postwar Ukraine and the world at large.
